Combined Geo-Scientist Examination
Plan of Examination
The Combined Geo-Scientist Examination will consist of three successive stages
An Objective-type exam with two papers. This stage is for selecting candidates for the Main Examination, and the marks will be counted towards the final merit.
Stage-II: Main Examination
A Descriptive-type exam with three papers. This stage is for selecting candidates for the Personality Test, and these marks will also be counted for the final merit.
Stage-III: Personality Test / Interview
The final stage of the selection process.
Eligibility Conditions
(I) Nationality
A candidate must be either:
- a Citizen of India, or
- a subject of Nepal, or
- a subject of Bhutan, or
- a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling, or
- a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or certain East African Countries.
Note: Candidates in categories (b) through (e) must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.
(II) Age Limits
A candidate must be between 21 and 32 years old as of January 1st, 2026. This means they must have been born not earlier than January 2nd, 1994, and not later than January 1st, 2005.
Age Relaxation:
- Up to 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
- Up to 3 years for OBC candidates.
- Up to 3 years for Defence Services Personnel disabled during hostilities.
- Up to 5 years for Ex-Servicemen.
- Up to 10 years for persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD).
Important: Candidates should carefully read the detailed notes in the official notification regarding age relaxation, definitions of Ex-Servicemen, and requirements for PwBD candidates.
(III) Minimum Educational Qualification
For Geologist Group ‘A’: Master’s degree in Geological Science, Geology, or related fields.
For Geophysicist Group ‘A’ & Scientist ‘B’ (Geophysics): M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Physics, Geophysics, or related fields.
For Chemist Group ‘A’ & Scientist ‘B’ (Chemical): M.Sc. in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, or Analytical Chemistry.
For Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology): Master’s degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Marine Geology, or Hydrogeology.
Note: Candidates who have appeared for their final qualifying exam and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply provisionally.
(IV) Physical Standards
Candidates must be physically fit according to the standards outlined in the official regulations for the examination.
Communication Details
All communication regarding the examination should include the following particulars:
- Name and Year of the Examination
- URN (Universal Registration Number)
- Roll Number (if received)
- Name of Candidate (in full block letters)
- Complete Postal Address
- Valid and Active Email-ID
