Stage-I: Preliminary Examination (Objective)
Consists of two Objective Type (multiple choice) papers for each stream. The question papers will be set in English only.
Stream-I: Geologist & Hydrogeologist
Stream-II: Geophysicist
Stream-III: Chemist
Important Notes for Preliminary Exam:
- There will be a penalty (Negative Marking) for wrong answers. One-third of the marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
- No penalty for unanswered questions.
- Calculators are not permitted in the Examination Hall for Objective Type Papers.
- Only qualified candidates (approx. 6-7 times the number of vacancies) will be admitted to the Main Examination.
- A minimum qualifying mark in both Paper-I and Paper-II is required.
Stage-II: Main Examination (Conventional)
Consists of three conventional type papers for each stream, to be answered in English only.
Stream-I: Geologist
Stream-II: Geophysicist
Stream-III: Chemist
Stream-IV: Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology)
Important Notes for Main Exam:
- Candidates must appear in all papers for their respective stream. Failure to appear in any paper will lead to rejection of candidature.
- Credit will be given for orderly, effective, and exact expression.
- Use only the international form of Indian numerals (1, 2, 3, etc.).
- Non-Programmable Pocket Calculators are permitted. Loaning or interchanging calculators is not allowed.
- Irrelevant matter or identifying marks on the answer script will result in a penalty.
Common Instructions
Scribe and Compensatory Time Facility
Candidates must write the papers in their own hand. However, the facility of a scribe and/or compensatory time is available for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) under specific conditions. Candidates must produce the required certificates from a competent medical authority. The qualification of the scribe must not be more than the minimum qualification criteria of the examination.
Stage-III: Personality Test / Interview
Candidates who qualify in the Main Examination will be summoned for a Personality Test/Interview, which carries 200 Marks. There are no minimum qualifying marks for this stage.
The interview board will assess the candidate's suitability for the post, focusing on leadership, initiative, intellectual curiosity, tact, social qualities, mental and physical energy, practical application, and integrity of character.
