Delhi’s education sector is set for a monumental transformation with a staggering ₹19,326 crore budget allocation for 2026-27. This massive investment promises a wave of exciting new opportunities and resources for students across the capital.

Empowering Students with Major New Schemes
The government has unveiled several student-centric initiatives designed to promote accessibility and reward academic excellence. In a significant move to support female students, ₹90 crore has been allocated to provide free bicycles to 1,30,000 girls in Class IX, making their journey to school safer and more convenient. Furthermore, the administration announced a landmark plan to establish the city’s first Sainik School, aiming to instill patriotism and leadership qualities in the youth. To celebrate academic achievement, meritorious students passing their Class 10 exams will receive laptops, with a dedicated fund of ₹10 crore for this popular scheme.
A Tech-Fueled Future for Learning
The new budget heavily emphasizes integrating technology into the education system for a modern learning experience. A sum of ₹10 crore is earmarked for incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into assessment systems and examination processes to enhance learning outcomes. The successful smart classroom project will also be expanded, with a target to equip 8,777 more classrooms with smart boards in the coming year, with plans for 21,000 in the near future. This push is complemented by the development of a digital library system, ensuring all students have equal access to a vast repository of knowledge resources.
Boosting Infrastructure and Specialized Education
A significant portion of the budget is dedicated to upgrading and expanding educational infrastructure. This includes ₹275 crore for expanding existing schools and ₹200 crore for constructing new buildings. For higher and technical education, a massive ₹720 crore has been allocated to upgrade ITIs and construct new buildings for engineering and polytechnic colleges. Ambitious projects like developing an “Educity” in Narela and a permanent campus for the Sports University are also in the pipeline, signaling a long-term vision for creating a world-class educational hub in the capital.
