The era of the ‘exam mafia’ in Chhattisgarh may be over. A groundbreaking new law has been passed, introducing severe punishments for anyone involved in paper leaks or cheating.

  • Up to 10 years of imprisonment for offenders.
  • Hefty fines reaching up to a staggering ₹1 crore.
  • Candidates caught cheating face a ban of up to 3 years.

In a decisive move to safeguard the future of lakhs of students, the Chhattisgarh assembly has approved a powerful new bill. This legislation is designed to completely overhaul the examination system, ensuring transparency and fairness in both public recruitment and professional entrance tests.

A New Era of Exam Integrity

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stated that this law sends a clear and strict message against malpractice. The government’s goal is not just to punish offenders but to build a secure and trustworthy environment for hardworking aspirants. By targeting organized cheating rings and corrupt individuals, the state aims to restore confidence in the examination process and ensure that merit is the only criterion for success.

What Are the Punishments?

The new law leaves no room for leniency. Individuals involved in organized cheating, paper leaks, or other unfair practices can face imprisonment from three to ten years and fines starting from ₹10 lakh. For institutions or service providers found guilty, the penalty is even more severe, with fines potentially reaching ₹1 crore and debarment from conducting exams. Students caught using unfair means will have their results cancelled and will be barred from taking public exams for one to three years.

Protecting Whistleblowers and Ensuring Fairness

A key feature of the bill is the protection offered to whistleblowers, ensuring their identity remains confidential to encourage the reporting of such crimes. The law’s scope is comprehensive, covering every stage of an exam, from the printing of question papers to the final declaration of results. This end-to-end security framework is set to become a benchmark for conducting fair examinations in the country.
