The National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) has officially launched a new short-term internship designed to empower the next generation of environmental leaders. This three-month program is meticulously structured to build strong capacity, foster deep environmental awareness, and significantly boost employment opportunities for participating students. Interns will move beyond theory, actively engaging with live NBA programmes and projects. This immersive approach ensures that participants gain practical, real-world skills that are essential for a successful career in conservation.

For those seeking a more extensive experience, the authority also runs the prestigious Biodiversity Samrakshan Internship Programme (BSIP). This is a more intensive, one-year commitment that can be extended for up to two additional years for interns who demonstrate exceptional promise and interest. The BSIP is a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aimed at creating a skilled cadre of young professionals.
Participants in the BSIP are placed with various State Biodiversity Boards (SBBs) and Union Territory Biodiversity Councils (UTBCs). In these roles, they get a front-row seat to conservation efforts, participating in high-level meetings, organizing public awareness programs, and conducting critical field studies. The most recent cycle saw 24 interns selected through a rigorous all-India process, highlighting the competitive and valuable nature of this opportunity.
