IIT Roorkee’s Piped Natural Gas facility inauguration highlights commitment to sustainability.

In a proactive response to a looming LPG shortage, a prominent educational institution has taken a significant step towards energy sustainability. This initiative not only addresses immediate fuel concerns but also champions a more environmentally-friendly energy solution.

  • New Piped Natural Gas (PNG) facility inaugurated at IIT Roorkee.
  • Over 15,000 meters of pipeline laid to ensure reliable energy supply.
  • Alignment with India’s vision for cleaner, sustainable energy sources.

Understanding the Initiative

In light of recent warnings regarding the limited availability of LPG cylinders, the administration at the institute has made a strategic decision. By introducing the new Piped Natural Gas (PNG) facility, the campus aims to provide a consistent and eco-friendly energy source. Previously, hostel kitchens were advised to prepare simpler meals that require less fuel, showcasing the institute’s commitment to adaptability during uncertain times.

Phase 1 of the PNG Project

The launch of phase 1 of the PNG project marks a pivotal moment for the institution. The project has successfully installed over 15,000 meters of MDPE pipeline, which is set to enhance energy accessibility across the campus. This ambitious development aims to connect 14 hostel mess facilities and around 1,500 residences, fostering a greener lifestyle for students and staff alike.
