This section specifies the circumstances where the public is bound to assist a Magistrate or police officer: (1) in taking or preventing the escape of any other person whom such Magistrate or police officer is authorised to arrest; or (2) in the prevention or suppression of a breach of the peace; or (3) in the prevention of any injury attempted to be committed to any railway, canal, telegraph or public property.

Section 37(1)

This sub-section mandates public assistance to a Magistrate or police officer in capturing an individual they are authorised to arrest, or preventing such an individual from escaping custody.

Section 37(2)

This part obliges the public to help in stopping or managing any situation that could disrupt public order and peace.
