Aspiring doctors in Jharkhand, get ready for a potential game-changer! The state government has unveiled a major proposal to significantly increase both MBBS and postgraduate medical seats, aiming to reshape the future of healthcare in the region.

  • A comprehensive proposal has been submitted to the National Medical Commission (NMC) for a major seat hike.
  • Three new medical colleges in Dumka, Hazaribag, and Palamu are slated to begin postgraduate programs.
  • Existing institutions, including RIMS in Ranchi, are targeted for a significant expansion in student intake.

A Major Boost for Medical Education

In a strategic move to combat the shortage of specialist doctors, Jharkhand’s Health Department has put forth an ambitious plan to the NMC. This proposal aims to bolster the state’s medical infrastructure by increasing the number of available seats across various medical colleges. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the people of Jharkhand have access to improved healthcare facilities by producing more homegrown medical professionals.

MBBS Seat Expansion on the Horizon

Medical aspirants have a lot to look forward to. A key part of the proposal includes increasing the undergraduate (MBBS) seats at RIMS, Ranchi, from the current 180 to a substantial 250. Furthermore, following the successful increase of seats from 100 to 150 at MGM Medical College in Jamshedpur, a similar expansion is proposed for the medical colleges in Dumka, Hazaribagh, and Dhanbad.
