यह 'साधारण अपवाद' अध्याय की शुरुआत है। यदि कोई सैनिक अपने कमांडर के आदेश पर सद्भावपूर्वक किसी भीड़ पर गोली चलाता है (कर्तव्य का पालन करते हुए), तो उसने कोई अपराध नहीं किया है (IPC 76 = BNS 14)।
